Target |
The goal set for the data, typically the target comes from our four comparison communities (South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Chariho, and Cumberland). In these cases the target is the midpoint between the median and the most positive score. For example, the target for elementary reading index is 91.3 and was generated in the following way: 1.
South Kingstown index 90.3 2.
Chariho index 90.2 3.
Cumberland index 89.0 4.
North Kingstown index (highest) 92.1 5.
Average index 90.4 6. Midpoint between 4 and 5 (target) 91.3 The target for expenditures as
a percent of the approved budget is up to 100%, or 100% or less. |

Proficiency Index |
An index computed by the
department of education based on the scores of students on state
assessments. Students meeting
state standards are awarded 100 points; those nearly meeting standards 75
points, students well below standards are awarded either 25 or 50 points
dependent on achievement level, and 0 points for no evidence of achievement. The RIDE technical bulletin on

SALT Survey |
A survey administered annually
to students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Complete SALT survey information is available at the
