ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
South Kingstown Integrated Preschool (SKIP) at Wakefield Elementary School, educates a diverse group of children, including those with and without disabilities or developmental delays. SKIP currently provides half-day preschool sessions for both 3 and 4-year-olds.
- As part of the South Kingstown School Department, our program is aligned with the district Kindergarten curriculum. We have also established transition meetings with the SKSD school of entry when your child is ready for kindergarten. This collaboration between SKIP and the elementary school makes for a smooth transition with a clear understanding of your child on day one of kindergarten.
All SKIP classrooms:
• Are staffed by an experienced, Rhode Island Department of Education certified teacher and paraprofessional.
• Provide developmentally appropriate curriculum in implementing the RI Early Learning Developmental Standards
• Have a maximum of 15 children
• Provide a multidisciplinary approach to learning through program-wide collaboration
• Include Social-Emotional Development (SEL) as part of the instructional goals for all students.
MISSION STATEMENT
- It is the mission of SKIP to create a loving, nurturing, and productive environment, which respectfully embraces the value of each child, family, faculty member, and community partner. We maintain high expectations for all children, with the fundamental understanding that each child can learn given instruction which is built upon his or her unique strengths and learning style. By committing to putting the needs of children first and pooling our resources as needed, we strive to assist each child in reaching his or her full potential during these precious and important early years.
WHAT SETS US APART
- Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy services are embedded within the school day to students who require such as part of their special education services.
- Our School Psychologist and Social Worker are available to work with children and their families
- As part of Wakefield Elementary School we have access to a full-time nurse/teacher.

Play is the primary means by which children demonstrate early learning accomplishments. We have created a learning community that promotes literacy,
effective communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, civic responsibility, and
the skills necessary for living and working in a culturally diverse society.
South Kingstown Integrated Preschool has participated in the BrightStars quality assessment process and SKIP was awarded 4 out of 5 stars. We were assessed across several quality standards and criteria including Health and Safety, Early Learning and Development, and Family Engagement.
